Sapphire blade is the name given to the special blades used in the “grooving” stage, which is the most important in hair transplantation. It has a direct effect on the result. It’s totally made of sapphire and one of the newest technologies. Specially designed sapphire tipped blades can be used in FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and percutaneous techniques for hair transplantation and grooving.

What are the advantages of Sapphire Blade?

First of all, when we compare sapphire blades with any other blades such as steel blades. Steel-tipped blades lose their sharpness over time and they result in more tissue damage. But sapphire tipped blades do not lose their sharpness. They have a hard, durable and smooth surface because it is a crystal. And it will not cause any tissue damage. Secondly, sapphire tipped blades do not disrupt blood circulation and are totally anti-bacterial. Sapphire blades are anti-microbial and thus prevent the risk of infection.

The channels opened with sapphire tipped blades do not impair the quality of the tissue and the blood circulation. That allows hair follicles to hold on new places tighter and stronger. Also, sapphire blades allow micro openings of the channels results in shorter post-operative recovery time. Some patients have sensitivity or allergy to the metal blades, using sapphire blades also remove this problem. Generally, sapphire blades are used in the FUE method. But lately, it has been newly named as ‘Sapphire FUE hair transplantation

What is the difference between Sapphire FUE Method and Classical FUE Method?

The main difference is while grooving using Sapphire tipped blade instead of using steel-tipped blades. The use of a sapphire blade in the FUE technique has initiated an innovative era in hair transplantation. In hair transplantation, placing hair follicles into the opening channels is considered as one of the most important section of the process. Because, the direction, density, and naturalness of the hair follicles depend on the success of these channel openings. The three different sized 1,0 1,3 and 1,5mm types of blades allows maximum efficiency on the operation.

How is Sapphire FUE Operation Applied?

Firstly, the patients have a pre-consultation and detailed examination with the doctors. During the examination, we learn the medical history of the patients, afterwards, detailed hair and scalp checks are performed. After this process, we determine the cause of hair loss. By considering the expectations and needs of the patient, we decide what is best for patients.

On the day of the operation, the hair of a patient shortened to be 3mm long. Local anaesthesia is applied to the area and via micro motor grafts are collected. Channels are opened by sapphire blades to place the new hair follicles. After the placement of the hair follicles in the area is completed, the medical dressing is performed. And Sapphire FUE operation is completed.
